The Origin of The Name “AGATE” in Arabic

Natural Khorasani Agate With Handmade Silver Ring

The name “Al-Aqeeq” is derived from the term “Aq ul Nakhil”, which means “cultivating the fruit of palm trees”. In fact, the color of Agate is similar to the color of the palm fruits, many of which are called “dates” in the final stages of ripening and their colours range from yellow to red, brown and black, which are also found in agate. The historian Ibn al-Dubai has composed a poem in this regard:

Look at the palm tree and how it stands… Its branches are like pearls and agate.

Ibn al-Dubai
