Avoiding Harms

Imam Baqir (as) passed by someone who had been whipped by the officers and said:

“Where is his agate ring? If he had been wearing an agate ring, he would not have been whipped.”

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ مَاجِيلَوَيْهِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي جَنُوبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ [أَبِى‏] الْمِقْدَامِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ علیه السلام قَالَ

مَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ مَجْلُودٌ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ كَانَ خَاتَمُهُ الْعَقِيقُ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ مَا جُلِدَ

امام باقر علیه السلام از کنار مردی عبور کردند که مأموران به او شلاق می زدند. ایشان فرمود: انگشتر عقیق او کجاست؟ اگر انگشتر عقیق با خود داشت شلاق نمی خورد
